I like to process life through verse. I have been doing this since I was in middle school. I write intuitively, and I revise intentionally. I do not claim to be the most impactful or astute writer. Sharing my work, however, has become more important to me this year. I hope my words affect you in some way. I hope they give you a new perspective or make you smile or just make you feel like you’re not alone in your experience of whatever. They are in no particular order or form of organization. I will share randomly as I’m willing. I realize this is not really a forum for discussion – but if you’re ever moved by my words and want to reach out to let me know – just email me. Thanks for being here.

MKE
i love the snow i tell her
and she laughs
at my naive view
unaware of the realities
of milwaukee winters
it's not the snow
nor even the cold
it's the wind
that sucks the breath
right out of your lungs
a stranger drove me
to her building
from the airport
her name was donna and
she gave me a poor-man's tour
of the city on the way
i stepped out of the building
alone, hungry
immediately wind-whipped yet
delighted
by the snowflakes gathering
on my lashes
alone in this new-to-me city
i leaned against the wind
and felt alive and free
